Comprehensive Eye Exams

drj2.jpg

During a complete eye health exam, our optometrists will not only determine your prescription for glasses and contacts, but will also check your eyes for common eye diseases, assess how your eyes work together as a team and evaluate your eyes as an indicator of your overall health.

Eye examinations are an important part of health maintenance for everyone.

Even if you believe your vision is fine, our routine eye exam can detect serious underlying conditions such as glaucoma, retinal tears or retinal holes, diabetic retinopathy, ocular and brain tumors, dry eyes and contact lens related disorder. Left undetected, these and other conditions can result in vision loss and very serious health problems.

Adults should have their eye examination every two years to check for early signs of eye disease and to keep their prescriptions current. For seniors and children, a yearly eye exam is recommended. We are happy to see patients from 3 years of age and up. We are also happy to see infants 12 months of age or younger for specific concerns.

As a comprehensive eye health care provider, our optometrists are able to exchange vital health information with other eye specialists including ophthalmologists. In addition to emergency referrals for serious eye problems requiring immediate attention, we offer laser surgery co-management.

In addition to a caring and well trained staff, Maycock Eyecare has very advanced vision technology to assist us in diagnosing and monitoring your eye health. Our equipment includes an FDT visual field machine and a digital retinal camera.

Children’s Vision Care

Maycock Eyecare specializes in helping children. Although vision screenings are important, they are not complete eye examinations.

Our pediatric eye examination is more than just a measure of sight. We evaluate a child's vision, that is, test for eye teaming, focusing, depth perception, visual tracking and other visual perceptual disorders. Vision includes the gathering of information by the eyes, the processing of the visual information by the brain, and the integration of that information with the body. Any breakdown in this complex system can contribute to decreased academic performance.

Many bright, gifted children with 20/20 distance eyesight suffer from vision problems that can create barriers to learning. The efficient processing and understanding of visual information requires certain visual skills such as good coordination and hand-eye coordination. These skills are necessary for optimal learning.

Low Vision Services

The optometrists at Maycock Eyecare specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of Low Vision Conditions. We offer the most advanced devices to enhance and improve sight. Our team works closely with low vision companies and participates in their studies of new technology. We provide training and education on low vision devices, vitamin supplements and new developments in low vision treatments.

Conditions like Macular Degeneration, Glaucoma, and Cataracts can cause visual problems that ordinary glasses or contact lenses cannot correct. Help is available. Following a complete eye examination and treatment of any underlying disease or condition causing the decrease in vision, a thorough low vision evaluation can be conducted.

During this examination close attention is given to the effects of decreased vision on the patient's lifestyle and a plan is designed to best meet the patient's needs and goals. We believe in a team approach and work closely with all your Doctors to help our patients achieve greater independence.

With appropriate devices and training, patients with low vision can learn to use their remaining vision to its full potential so that they can live as independently as possible.
