Lens Coatings

Maycock Eyecare offers many different lens coatings including scratch-resistant coatings and multi-layered anti-reflection coatings, which are particularly useful for night driving and computer work. Top quality coatings from Maycock Eyecare ensure that your lenses give you the clearest definition and the best contrast throughout their life.

Anti-Reflection Coatings

Ordinary lenses reflect some light away from your eyes forcing them to work harder. The result is eyestrain and fatigue. To improve both the vision through the lenses and the appearance of the glasses, an anti-reflective coating (also called AR coating) is applied.

They consist of several layers of metal oxides applied to the front and back lens surfaces. Each layer is scientifically calculated to block reflected light. The result is that you'll see a reduction in glare, annoying reflections and halos around lights. This is a great safety benefit when you're driving at night.

Also, anti-reflective coating reduces both internal and external reflections on the lenses themselves, creating a nicer cosmetic appearance. Internal reflections appear as rings that make lenses look thick. External reflections mask your eyes from a clear, complete view when someone is looking at you. So with an anti-reflective coating, eyeglass lenses appear thin or non-existent, and your eyes look more natural.

By sharpening visual performance, anti-reflective lenses help you see with more clarity. Clarity with less glare helps your eyes feel better at work where long hours in front of a computer screen and harsh fluorescent lighting can really make for tired eyes. In clinical studies, anti-reflective lenses were proven to dramatically reduce eye fatigue caused by the light reflections that create glare.

alizeLogo2.gifAt Maycock Eyecare we recommend all lenses be coated with Essilor's new Crizal Alizé anti-reflection coating. It is 10 times easier to clean than standard anti-reflective lenses and offers outstanding clarity and scratch-resistance. Crizal Alizé is available on a wide variety of lens materials and designs, including Varilux progressives such as the Physio.

Maycock Eyecare's staff would be happy to answer any further questions and show you lenses coated with Crizal Alizé, letting you compare then to traditional anti-reflective coated lenses for yourself.

Scratch-Resistant Coatings

TD2Logo.gifNo eyeglass lens material — not even glass — is scratch-proof. However, a lens that is treated on both the front and back with a clear, hard coating does become considerably more resistant to scratching and will prolong the life of your eyeglasses.

At Maycock Eyecare we recommend all lenses be coated with Essilor's TD2 scratch-resistant coating to protect both the front and back of your lenses with its tough and durable properties.
